Centre baseball snaps skid with 12-3 win over Mount St. Joseph
The Centre College baseball team snapped a six-game losing streak with a 12-3 win over the College of Mount St. Joseph Wednesday, March 19 at UC Health Stadium in Florence, Ky.
The Colonels tallied a season-high 18 hits in the game, which marks the most hits by a Centre baseball team since a 20-hit performance against Sewanee April 5, 2009.
The Lions (4-6-1) made it 2-1 after one, and then tied the score in the third with another single tally, but the Colonels scored four runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth to go back in front 10-2.
The two teams scored a run each in the seventh, while Centre added its 12th run in the eighth for the final 12-3 score.
Cook, Litsey and sophomore Jake Johnson (Louisville, Ky.) all had big nights. The trio combined to go 12-for-17 with nine runs scored and nine driven in, including three doubles, a triple and three stolen bases.
Junior Matt Cox (Middlesboro, Ky.) earned the first win of his collegiate career. The junior hurler threw two scoreless innings of relief and allowed one hit and one walk, while striking out two to improve to 1-1 on the year.
The Colonels, now 5-11 overall, will return to conference action Saturday, March 22 against Rhodes College. The SAA doubleheader is set to begin at 1 p.m. at Gary Wright Field in Danville, Ky.
