Colonels cruise past Midway, 10-4, earn first home victory
DANVILLE, Ky.- Centre baseball won a decisive 10-4 victory over the visiting Midway Eagles on Sunday afternoon at Gary Wright Field.
The Colonels improve to 2-3 on the year while the Eagles fall to 1-9, as Centre earns its first home win.
Centre got on the board early and often, jumping out to a five-run lead first inning. Junior Drew Schacht (Lexington, Ky.) began the rout with an RBI single.
A few batters later, junior Cameron Duggins (Knoxville, Ky.) extended the Colonels' lead with an RBI single to right field. Following Duggins, with runners on second and third, sophomore Parker Selin (Lexington, Ky.) singled to left field bringing in two runners.
Midway would tag Centre starter junior Nick Hoffman (Louisville, Ky.) for a run in the top of the second.
Trailing 6-1 in the top of the fourth, the Eagles added three runs, two earned. Croslin and Lindsely both picked an RBI singles in the half inning.
The Colonels would answer in the bottom of the fourth, as Schacht continued his stellar day knocking in another RBI.
Leading 7-4 in the bottom of the sixth freshman Chris Esselman (Louisville, Ky.) tacked on another run to the Colonels lead, knocking in freshman Austin Sharkey (West Palm Beach, Fla.) on a single to right field.
The following inning with runners on second and third Sharkey laced a double to left field, brining in two more runs and extending Centre's lead to 10-4.
The Colonels were lead at the plate by Schacht, who went 3-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Centre will resume action this Wednesday, traveling to Maryville for a tilt beginning at 6:00 p.m. ET.
