Hagan belts two HRs but Colonels fall to Scots in back-and-forth affair

MARYVILLE, Tenn. - Centre baseball fell to the Maryville Scots, 10-4, in a cloesly-contested battle on Tuesday night.
Centre drops to 2-4 overall with its second loss of the season against the Scots, who remain undefeated at 7-0.
The Colonels jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the third inning. Sophomore Seth Hagan (Goshen, Ky.) knocked a home run to left field while freshman Austin Sharkey (West Palm Beach, Fla.) and sophomore Will Kirk (Morgantown, N.C.) later scored off of throwing errors.
The Scots quickly took back the lead in the bottom half of the inning, lacing three hits - two for extra bases - for four runs in the frame. With runners in scoring position, Johnny Carpenter doubled down the line, recording two RBIs. Jake Peterson also had an RBI double in the inning.
In the bottom of the fourth Maryville would strike again, tagging senior Aaron Scilley (Maysville, Ky.) for two runs. Hayden Hollingsworth and Andrew Henry both recorded RBI singles in the half inning.
The following inning with a 6-3 lead, Evan Ezell singled to center field registering two RBIs.
Centre responded in the top of the seventh as Hagan tallied his second home run of the night and third of his career, cutting the Scots' lead to 8-4.
Maryville would add two more runs in the bottom of the frame off of a Patrick Messinger RBI single.
Centre was unable to muster any offense in the final two innings of play.
The Colonels were led at the plate by Hagan, who went 3-for-3 with two home runs, two RBIs, and two runs.
Sophomore Harrison Williams (Goshen, Ky.) also had a solid inning of relief, striking out two of the three batters he faced.
Centre will resume action this Saturday, traveling to Hendrix for a Southern Athletic Association tilt beginning at 1:00 p.m. ET.
