Colonels dropped by Lynx in SAA meeting

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Centre baseball suffered an 18-3 defeat Friday afternoon against Rhodes in Southern Athletic Association play at Stauffer Field.

Originally scheduled to be a home series for the Colonels, inclement weather in the forecast forced the teams to play at Rhodes.

The Lynx (15-10, 7-3 SAA) took advantage in Friday's series opener, thrashing the Colonels (12-9, 4-3) for 19 hits and a season-best 18 runs.

Batting first as the "away" team, Rhodes plated four runs in the opening inning as Nick Bosma and John Medich each had two-RBI base knocks.

A Centre error in the fourth inning proved costly, as the Lynx scored two unearned runs to up their lead to 6-0.

By the time the Colonels' bats warmed up, Rhodes had built a 10-0 advantage.

Parker Selin (Lexington, Ky.) finally put Centre on the board in the bottom of the seventh, clearing the bases with a three-RBI double to left center.

Rhodes would tally eight more runs to secure the conference victory.

The two sides will meet Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. ET.
