Colonels stifled in 10-3 loss against Transy
DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre baseball dropped a 10-3 decision against in-state rival Transylvania on a chilly Monday night at Gary Wright Field.
The Colonels (12-15) were stumped by the aggressive Pioneers (9-11) in a game originally scheduled to be played last week at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington, Ky.
Transy took advantage of a couple of Colonel miscues in the top of the first, plating three runs on one hit and a pair of errors.
The visitors added three more in the second behind five stolen bases, and another in the third inning when Riley Willbur stole home.
All told, the Pioneers scored the game's first 10 runs before Centre finally got on the board in the seventh, when Seth Hagan (Goshen, Ky.) crossed on a balk.
Will Kirk (Morgantown, N.C.) led off with a single in the bottom of the first, but Centre was held hitless from then until the ninth inning.
The Colonel pitchers totaled 15 strikeouts, led by Hogan Brownley's (Louisville, Ky.) five, but Centre's bats managed only three hits. Centre also had a season-high six errors.
The Colonels will look to right the ship Wednesday when they travel to Louisville, Ky., to take on 21st-ranked Spalding.
