DANVILLE, Ky. – Baseball Head Coach Drew Briese has announced the addition of Nick Ascue to the coaching staff for the upcoming season.

Ascue will enter his third year of coaching after spending two seasons at Covenant College in Georgia, where he oversaw the development of catchers, in addition to myriad other assistant coaching duties.

He has also spent time this summer coaching the Watertown Rapids of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League in New York State.

As a student-athlete, Ascue competed for the Averett University Cougars in Danville, Va., as a catcher and utility fielder. He was twice named USA South Academic All-Conference, and graduated in 2015 with a B.S. in Coaching Education.

Ascue also recently completed a Master's from Xavier University in Coaching Education and Athlete Development.

"I am intensely enthusiastic about joining the Centre baseball program," Ascue said. "I am thankful for Drew Briese and the athletic department who have provided me with this incredible opportunity.

"My intentions are to help provide our student-athletes with a Centre experience by helping shape the learning environment. Also, I hope to help activate the full potential of our athletes by challenging them to reach beyond their grasp and achieve excellence daily through personal ownership."

Of the hire, Briese said, "Nick is tremendous addition to our coaching staff. He fit all the characteristics we were looking for in a new coach: hard-working, driven, loyal, and team-oriented with great communication skills. Nick will, undoubtedly, have a positive impact on our program and our players."
