Centre alum Barnett named Wide Receivers Coach
DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre football Head Coach Andy Frye has announced the addition of Dylan Barnett to the full-time staff as Wide Receivers Coach for the upcoming season.
Barnett, who came to Centre to play safety for the Colonels, has been a student coach since his sophomore year after suffering a career-ending injury. He recently graduated this past May with a B.S. in Biology.
"Dylan Barnett was an outstanding student coach for us these last few years," Frye commented. "We are thrilled to have him on board. His enthusiasm for Centre and Centre football, and his intensity to coach here will have an immediate impact on our program's success."
"I am extremely excited to return to Danville and join the Centre football staff," Barnett said. "I'm honored that Coach Frye, Coach (Ben) Fox, and the rest of the athletic department are entrusting me to work with this super talented receiver group. I'm looking forward to contributing and being a part of the continued success of the program."
His experience as a student coach includes assisting with the evaluation of recruits and coordination of recruiting events, as well as film and data entry on Hudl. He also held a handful of duties on game days, including charting opponent play calls and supplementing the Centre coordinators.
Centre has gone 17-3 during Barnett's two seasons as a student coach, and his work with the defensive backs has helped the Colonels finish as one of the best passing defenses in the conference each year.
Other coaching experience for Barnett includes working football camps at Toledo, Ohio University and Cincinnati.
The Colonels open 2018 at home Sept. 1 against Hanover. Kickoff from Farris Stadium is set for 7 p.m. ET.
