Centre field hockey defeats Concordia in neutral SAA contest
Shots (on goal)
GREENCASTLE, Ind. – For the second time this season the Centre field hockey team downed Concordia (Wis.), defeating the Falcons by a 5-1 score at Reavis Field on the campus of DePauw University.
Unlike the Sept. 16 meeting – a 4-0 Centre victory – Sunday's match was a Southern Athletic Association affair. With the win, the Colonels advance to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in-conference, while the Falcons fall to 2-5 (0-3).
Centre attacked early and often, finishing the match with wide margins in shots (28 to 8) and shots on goal (16 to 6).
Barker found the back of the net again less than three minutes later, getting the assist from freshman Sarah Biggs (Louisville, Ky.).
The two swapped roles in the 27th minute, as Barker supplied the assist for Biggs' goal that made it 3-0 before the halftime break.
Senior Brooklyn Bell (Louisville, Ky.) opened the scoring in the second half, netting her fifth goal of the season off of junior Emily Schank's (Louisville, Ky.) assist to give Centre a 4-0 advantage.
Concordia finally got on the board on Kelsey Fulton's score in the 55th minute, but Biggs answered with her second goal of the day just 90 seconds later to bring it to 5-1. Barker was credited with the assist.
Biggs recorded her first career multi-goal game and increased her season total to four scores.
Barker pushed her team-highs to 11 goals and 24 points with her fourth multi-goal game of the season.
Sophomore Kristen Mulcahy (Cedarburg, Wis.) finished with five saves in the win.
After six consecutive road matches, the Colonels return home next weekend to host Rhodes Oct. 7 at 11 a.m. ET.
