Centre men return to action at Callaway Gardens

PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. - The Centre men's golf team returned to the course today for their first tournament of the spring term as they competed in the opening 18 holes at the Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate. With 18 holes left to play, the Colonels find themselves in 17th place.

The Colonels shot a combined team score of 314 in their first round since mid-October to finish eight strokes ahead of Millsaps. Oglethorpe and Methodist sit at the top of the leaderboard after the first day of play.

Individually, the top round of the day for the Colonels belonged to senior Andrew McKinney (Danville, Ky.). McKinney shot even par on the front nine and spread out four birdies across his opening round to finish at a score of 73 for the day.

Junior Jake Mattingly (Louisville, Ky.) returned from a fall semester abroad to fire a score of 77, getting off to a solid start with an even par front nine to match McKinney before struggling in the last four holes. Twin brother Zach Mattingly (Louisville, Ky.) posted a score of 80 in his first tournament back from studying abroad.

Senior Hall Rupert (Powells Point, N.C.) and junior Hans Stromberg (Lexington, Ky.) rounded out Centre's Monday totals with respective scores of 84 and 87.

The Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate will conclude with the second round on Tuesday.
