Centre men in second with one round left at Centre Spring Invite
TAMPA, Fla. - The Centre men's golf team played the second of three rounds at the Centre Spring Invite, hosted by Saddlebrook G.C. With one round left to play, the Colonels sit in second place.
Centre, who held a small lead over RPI after day 1, posted a combined team score of 313 on Friday and now sits six shots back of RPI with a two-day team score of 625. Denison is in third place with a score of 629, followed by Allegheny and Carroll.
Individually, Junior Zach Mattingly (Louisville, Ky.) led the way for Centre for the second day in a row, posting a score of 76 to sit in a tie for third place overall. Mattingly sits one shot ahead of senior Andrew McKinney (Danville, Ky.), who posted his second consecutive score of 77. McKinney shrugged off bogeys on five of his first six holes, firing four birdies the rest of the way. McKinney sits in a tie for fifth place. Mattingly and McKinney are tied with the top two scorers from RPI through the first two days.
Senior Hall Rupert (Powells Point, N.C.) posted a score of 79 on Friday, including a birdie on the ninth hole to finish off his round. Juniors Jake Mattingly (Louisville, Ky.) and Hans Stromberg (Lexington, Ky.) rounded off Centre's Friday totals with scores of 81.
The Centre Spring Invite will wrap up with the final 18 holes on Saturday.
