The Centre men's lacrosse team continued its winning ways with a 24-8 victory over Rhodes in a Southern Athletic Association Tournament quarterfinal game Saturday in Danville, Ky.
The Colonels, who have won nine straight games and have not lost since March 17, improve to 11-2 on the season while Rhodes finishes the year at 5-10.
Centre had several strong individual performances in the game, led by six goals each from Connor Stubbs (Decatur, Ga.) and Zack Connors (Louisville, Ky.), and a three-goal, five-assist night from Peter Murphy (Louisville, Ky.). Seth Gray (Louisville, Ky.) also scored three times while James Bennett (Alpharetta, Ga.) had two goals.
Though the game was close in the early moments, Centre broke a 2-2 tie by scoring the next eight goals and wouldn't be threatened the rest of the way. The Colonels took a 10-4 lead to halftime, outscored Rhodes 6-1 over the opening minutes of the second half, then answered Rhodes' next goal with five straight to go up 21-6.
Centre outshot Rhodes 66-44, picked up 46 ground balls to 27 for the Lynx and held a 21-13 edge in faceoffs.
With the victory, Centre advances to next Friday's semifinals at Sewanee where the Colonels will meet Berry, a 17-4 winner over Millsaps on Saturday.
