Men's lacrosse falls to Berry in SAA semifinal
Face Offs Won
After defeating Berry during the regular season, the Centre men's lacrosse team came up on the losing end in the rematch, falling 15-13 in a Southern Athletic Association semifinal Friday in Sewanee, Tenn.
Berry outscored the Colonels 4-1 in the first quarter, and Centre would spend the rest of the game attempting to erase that deficit. Centre cut the margin to 6-5 by halftime and briefly tied the game when Zack Connors (Louisville, Ky.) scored the first goal of the second half.
Berry pulled away after the Connors goal by scoring six of the next seven goals and led the rest of the way. The Vikings built their lead to as many as five goals on three separate occasions before Centre rallied to cut the margin to 15-13 by scoring the final three goals of the game.
Connors led the Colonels with four goals while Connor Stubbs (Decatur, Ga.) added three. Peter Murphy (Louisville, Ky.) had two goals and two assists while Scott Hughes (Chattanooga, Tenn.), Matt Hughes (Vero Beach, Fla.), Sam Rush (Cornelius, N.C.) and James Bennett (Alpharetta, Ga.) all scored once.
Berry took 33 shots to Centre's 31 in the game. Bryce McCoy (Hudson, Ohio) made seven saves for Centre while Jordan Boreman made six stops for the Vikings.
Centre sees its winning streak snapped at nine with the loss and wraps up its regular season at 11-3 while Berry improves to 13-4. The Colonels will await the word on whether or not they will be included in the NCAA field.
