Colonels fall to Roanoke in NCAA Tournament

The Centre men's lacrosse team traveled to Salem, Va. for their first ever NCAA Tournament game against the Roanoke College Maroons, ranked seventh in the nation. The Colonels lost the game by a score of 21-4.
Roanoke scored three quick goals to start the game, but the Colonels answered back with a goal by junior Zack Connors (Louisville, Ky.). The Maroons scored four more goals to end the first quarter with a 7-1 lead. Roanoke had another 7-1 period in the second quarter, with the lone Centre goal coming off the stick of junior Connor Stubbs (Decatur, Ga.).
Centre quickly put another goal on the board to start the third period as Stubbs scored 34 seconds into the second half on an assist from lone Centre senior Scott Hughes (Chattanooga, Tenn.). The Colonels scored another goal midway through the fourth quarter on a shot by junior Peter Murphy (Louisville, Ky.). In a fast-paced game, Centre forced Roanoke into committing 23 turnovers.
The Colonels ended their 2013 season at 11-4. Roanoke will advance to play the winner of the Lynchburg vs. St. Mary's (Md.) game.
