The Centre men's lacrosse team took to the road for the first time this season to do battle with the Hanover Panthers in Hanover, Ind. The Colonels won by a score of 11-3.
Senior Connor Stubbs (Decatur, Ga.) led the way for Centre with three goals and three assists. Freshman Mitchell Kraus (Louisville, Ky.) added two goals, while six different players each scored one goal.
The Colonels opened the scoring nine minutes in as Stubbs scored his first goal of the game, assisted by senior Corey Krill (Louisville, Ky.). Junior Wesley Hardman (Narragansett, R.I.) added a goal three minutes later to make it 2-0 after the first period.
Hanover opened the second quarter scoring with a man-up goal, then Stubbs contributed to four goals, scoring two on assists by Hardman and senior Peter Murphy (Louisville, Ky.) and assisting on goals by Kraus and sophomore Conor Bennett (Alpharetta, Ga.). Freshman Austin Zehnder (Prospect, Ky.) added an unassisted goal at the end of the second quarter to make it a 7-1 halftime lead.
Centre added three more goals in the second period, courtesy of Murphy, Kraus and junior Phillip Malloy (Louisville, Ky.), with Connor Stubbs and junior Eamon Delay (Hempstead, N.Y.) providing assists. Freshman Bryant Portwood (Charlotte, N.C.) notched the first goal of his career in the fourth quarter. Junior Bryce McCoy (Hudson, Ohio) led the Colonels with seven saves.
For the game, Centre forced 33 Panther turnovers, won the ground ball battle 48-44 and outshot Hanover 51-40. The Colonels will return to action on Mach 5 for a 7 p.m. home game against Ferrum.
