The Centre men's soccer team rebounded from a Sunday loss with a late goal to claim a 1-0 victory Tuesday at Maryville College in Maryville, Tenn.
Senior forward Ryan Garvey (Louisville, Ky.) scored the decisive goal just inside the 20 minute mark in the second half off an assist from Robbe Tarver (Houston, Texas). The goal was a team-leading ninth of the season for Garvey while Tarver's assist was his seventh to lead the Colonels in that category.
According to head coach Jeb Burch, it was not just one assist, but quality passing from the entire team throughout the match which contributed to the victory.
"The standout stat tonight was 405 good passes to only 64 bad passes," said Burch. "Our previous best was versus Emory at 300 good passes to 107 bad passes. I am really proud of our boys. They played a great game tonight."
Centre took 12 shots in the game to five for Maryville. Zach Sosnovich (Woodbridge, N.J.) made two saves in goal in the win while Ben Munger had eight stops in the loss for Maryville.
Centre improves to 9-3-1 on the year while Maryville falls to 4-7-1 with the loss. Centre returns to action at home against Oglethorpe on Saturday.
