Centre men fall to Birmingham Southern

Playing in its fifth match in six days, the Centre men's tennis team lost to the Birmingham Southern Panthers, 6-2.

The Colonels got off to a rough start when they lost all three of their doubles competitions, 8-1, 8-5 and 8-2. Then the singles match featuring senior and number one starter Ben Newstadt (Louisville, Ky.) did not finish.

Centre was able to bounce back later in the singles matches, winning two of the next three. Junior Xan Witherington (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) won 6-2, 6-3 in the second singles match and freshman Trey Williamson (Nashville, Tenn.) won 6-2, 6-1 in the fourth contest. But the Panthers answered right back and won the final two matches to provide the final 6-2 margin, putting the Colonels at 5-12 on the year.

The next match for Centre men's tennis will be on April 17 as the Colonels will play host to Bellarmine.
