Men's tennis gets 5-4 SCAC win over Millsaps
The Centre men's tennis team bounced back from a loss in its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament opener by pulling out a 5-4 win over Millsaps on Saturday in North Little Rock, Ark.
The Colonels took a lead by winning two of the three doubles matches, then held on for the victory by splitting the six singles matches.
Picking up hard-fought doubles wins were Xan Witherington (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) and Trey Williamson (Nashville, Tenn.), who won 9-8 (7-5) in the No. 2 match, and the team of Woody Rini (Richmond, Ky.) and Parker Lawson (Prospect, Ky.), who held on for a 9-8 (7-3) win in No. 3.
Witherington and Rini also claimed singles wins with Witherington winning 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 2 match and Rini winning 6-1, 6-3 in No. 3. The other Centre victory came from Andrew Howard, who won 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 5 match.
The victory improved Centre's record to 6-14 and earned the Colonels a spot vs. Colorado College in Sunday's fifth place match.
