Marlins edge Colonels in singles action, win 6-3
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Centre men's tennis dropped a 6-3 decision against Virginia Wesleyan Monday at the Everett Tennis Center.
The Colonels slip to 3-7 overall this season, with the host Marlins improving to 4-4.
Virginia Wesleyan won two of three closely-contested doubles matches, with Centre's No. 3 pair of Adam Slone (Lexington, Ky.) and Beau Brown (Batesville, Ind.) providing an 8-6 win against Anthony Wilson and Andreas Combos for the Colonels.
Still missing its regular at No. 1 singles, Centre couldn't overcome the early deficit despite a handful of narrow matches.
Slone stepped up at No. 2 for the Colonels, defeated Combos by a 7-5, 6-3 score, and Benjamin Hadlock (Okemos, Mich.) won 7-5, 6-1 at No. 4 against Wilson.
The Marlins took the remaining four singles bouts, but needed three sets in each of them.
The Colonels face Randolph College tomorrow (Tuesday), beginning at 12:30 p.m. ET.
