Colonels shutout Randolph, win 5-0

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Centre men's tennis righted the ship Tuesday afternoon, defeating Randolph by a lopsided 5-0 margin inside the Crosswhite Athletics Club.

The Colonels snap a small two-match skid with the victory, improving to 4-7 overall while earning their first win of their Virginia trip. The Wildcats fall to a 1-4 record.

Max Middleton (Atlanta) and Ben Hadlock (Okemos, Mich.) made quick work of Joe Kaneda and John Coffron at No. 2 doubles to open proceedings, winning 6-1.

Centre's top pair of Matthew Ko (Nicholasville, Ky.) and Josh Joiner (Danville, Ky.) defeated Daniel Crutcher and Edgar Ellis, 6-3.

Beau Brown (Batesville, Ind.) and Adam Slone (Lexington, Ky.) cruised past Minh Hoang and Ben Roberts at No. 3, 6-0, earning their second straight win as a tandem.

Playing to decision and needing only two more team points, the Colonels swiftly took care of business in singles action.

Middleton dropped Crutcher, 6-1, 6-0, in the No. 1 singles bout to put Centre on the brink with four team points.

Slone closed the match with a solid 6-1, 6-1 victory against Ellis in No. 2 singles, securing wins in doubles and singles for the second match in a row.

Centre next meets Randolph-Macon (5-1) at 3:30 p.m. ET Thursday in Ashland, Va.
