Men's track finishes second at Hanover Invite
HANOVER, Ind. - The Centre men's track and field team traveled to Hanover to compete in the Hanover Invitational and finished in a close second place with 113 points.
Centre finished eight points behind first place Adrian, who had 121 points for the meet. Thomas More finished in third place with 96 points, followed by Trine and Hanover.
In the men's 100m dash, junior Rhoman James (Lexington, Ky.) finished in fifth overall with a time of 11.44. James also finished seventh in the 200m with a time of 23.36.
The Colonels had four top eight finishes in both of the middle distance events. In the 800m, sophomore Collin Wells (Louisville, Ky.) finished fourth, followed by freshman Noel Dingle (Lexington, Ky.) in fifth, senior Nathan Riggs (Campbellsville, Ky.) in seventh and senior Christian Apel (Milton, Ky.) in eighth. In the 800m, Riggs led the way with a second place finish, followed by sophomore Evan Miller (Worthington, Ohio) in fourth, Dingle in fifth and Apel in eighth. Junior Keenan Jones (Frankfort, Ky.) placed second in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:02.61.
Sophomore Thomas Burkey (Greeneville, Tenn.) scored in both of the hurdling events for Centre, finishing third in the 400m and fifth in the 110m. Freshman Patrick Gago (Cookeville, Tenn.) was Centre's top finisher in the 110m hurdles with a fourth place time of 16.34, while freshman Jake Pfaller (Fort Mitchell, Ky.) finished seventh in the 400m hurdles with a time of 59.13.
In the 4x100m relay, James teamed with freshman Thomas Jordan (Birmingham, Ala.), junior DeMontre Lewis (Cincinnati) and senior Tristen Morrow (Danville, Ky.) to finish second with a time of 43.63. Jordan and Morrow also competed in the 4x400m relay, teaming with sophomore Mason Isgrig (Weaverville, N.C.) and senior Daniel Crall (Danville, Ky.) for a fifth place time of 3:38.84.
Burkey came through again for the Colonels with a strong finish in the high jump, clearing 1.90 meters to finish in second place overall. In the same event, sophomore Henry Gunner (Elma, N.Y.) placed eighth with a clear of 1.70 meters. Senior Bryce Marshall (Danville, Ky.) finished sixth in the pole vault with a clear of 3.65 meters. In the long jump, Gunner posted a mark of 6.17 meters to finish fifth overall. Jordan finished right behind Gunner in seventh place at 6.15 meters. In the triple jump, Gago cleared 11.64 meters to finish seventh overall.
The throwing events were also good to the Colonels as freshmen Allen Richardson (Cookeville, Tenn.) and Braden Tabor (White Plains, Ky.) finished a respective fifth and seventh in the hammer. In the javelin, Isgrig finished third overall with a throw of 40.39 meters, followed by Morrow in fourth and sophomore Carter Broome (Charleston, Tenn.) in sixth.
Next up for the Colonels will be the Bellarmine Invitational, which will take place in Louisville on Apr. 6-7.
