Centre swim teams sweep Asbury on Senior Night

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre swimming and diving teams held their final meet of the year at Boles Natatorium and sent their dozen seniors home in style with a pair of victories over the Asbury Eagles. The women won 140-74 while the men won 160-71.

The meet started with the 200-yard medley relay and the Colonels came away with a pair of victories. The team of senior Claire Coleman (Hurricane, W.Va.), junior Jacquelyn Engel (Lexington, Ky.) and sophomores Amelia Blankenbeker (Jeffersonville, Ind.) and Chloe Grove (Bucyrus, Ohio) posted a winning time of 1:58.34 for the Centre women. On the men's side, seniors Bradley Baker (Paducah, Ky.), Noah Martin (Spartanburg, S.C.) and Jack Miller (Richmond, Ky.) teamed with freshman Jimmy Kelley (Cincinnati) to win with a time of 1:38.50.

The next event was the 1000-yard freestyle and the Colonels once again emerged with a sweep, with sophomore Cat Gleason (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) posting a time of 11:20.19 for the Centre women and Kelley winning for the men with a time of 10:16.62.

In the 200-yard freestyle, Blankenbeker won for the Colonels on the women's side in 1:57.27, while sophomore Arthur Ensign-George (Louisville, Ky.) won for the men with a time of 1:46.90. The next event was the 50-yard freestyle and Centre seniors Cameron Beach (Greenville, S.C.) and Noah Martin winning for their respective squads.

Chloe Grove got back on the winning side for the Colonels with a first place time of 4:51.67 in the 400-yard individual medley.

In diving, the Colonels swept the competitions with senior Sarah Hayhurst (Newburgh, Ind.) scoring 198.91 points in the lone women's contest while senior Brad Nordin (Paintsville, Ky.) scored 217.19 and 139.95 points in respective diving victories.

Swimming resumed with the 100-yard butterfly and resulted in yet another Centre sweep, with sophomore Annie Holmes (Louisville, Ky.) winning in 59.91, while Noah Martin won once more for the Centre men with a time of 52.93.

In the 100-yard freestyle it was the freshmen who came through with wins for Centre as Sarah Phillips (Lexington, Ky.) and Luke Martin (Spartanburg, S.C.) won with respective times of 55.28 and 50.49. The 500-yard freestyle saw Chloe Grove and Arthur Ensign-George record their second individual wins of the night.

The meet ended with relays and like the first event of the night, the Colonels swept the 200-yard freestyle relay. On the women's side, Beach, Phillips, Holmes and sophomore Allie Riley (Hendersonville, Tenn.) won with a time of 1:43.02. For the men, Ensign-George teamed with Luke Martin, sophomore Michael Hambleton (Lake Bluff, Ill.) and freshman Grey Pendery (Fort Thomas, Ky.) to win in 1:31.66.

It will be a short rest for the Colonels as they will travel to Nashville, Tenn. for their final tune-up before the conference championships, where they will face Trinity (Texas) and Birmingham Southern in a dual meet.
