Colonels tied for eighth after opening round at Jekyll Island

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. - The first day in the three-day Jekyll Island Women's Collegiate is in the books from Indian Mound G.C. and the Centre women's golf team finds itself in the top half of the leaderboard in a tie for eighth place with 36 holes left to play.

The Colonels shot a combined team score of 320 on Friday to sit in a tie with Southwestern. Centre is two shots back of DePauw and six back of Carnegie Mellon. Berry trails Centre by one shot.

Individually, freshman Bailey Plourde (Newcastle, Maine) continued her hot start to the spring semester, firing a score of 76 to tie for ninth place overall. Plourde kept her mistakes to a minimum, only recording a bogey or worse on two holes while finishing with a birdie on the par 5 third hole.

Senior Alison Miller (Lexington, Ky.) also had a solid day for the Colonels, posting a score of 79 to land in the individual top 30, including a birdie on the fourth hole.

Senior Eliza Hudson (Mauckport, Ind.) finished with a round of 82, calming down on the back nine with a stretch of five consecutive pars after a rough opening nine holes.

Sophomore Cameron Cahill (Lexington, Ky.) and senior Madison Grant (Lexington, Ky.) capped off Centre's Friday rounds with respective scores of 83 and 89.

The Jekyll Island Women's Collegiate will resume on Saturday with the second day of play.
