Colonels shoot 307 to place fifth at Jekyll Island

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. - The Centre women's golf team saved its best for last on the final day of play at the Jekyll Island Women's Collegiate in Georgia. The Colonels, who entered Sunday tied for eighth, moved up to fifth after one of their best rounds of the year.

Centre shot a combined team score of 307 on Sunday, the third best round of the day in the 32-team field. That performance, coupled with slides from Berry, DePauw and Washington University, propelled the Colonels into the top five on the leaderboard. Centre finished the tournament one shot ahead of Berry, seven ahead of DePauw and eight ahead of Washington University.

Individually, freshman Bailey Plourde (Newcastle, Maine), who was the most consistent player for the Colonels all tournament long, overcame a double bogey on her first hole to play even par the rest of the way, finishing with a round of 74.

Plourde totaled a three-day score of 227 to finish in seventh place overall for the tournament, and her top ten finish earned her a spot on the All-Tournament team.

Senior Eliza Hudson (Mauckport, Ind.) finished with a round of 75 on Sunday, keeping her mistakes to a minimum on a solid back nine, where she finished one over par. Hudson's strong Saturday and Sunday performances lifted her into the individual top 20.

Senior Madison Grant (Lexington, Ky.) and sophomore Cameron Cahill (Lexington, Ky.) each posted scores of 79 on the final day of play. Grant bounced back from a rough first day with two strong days to close out her tournament, including three birdies on the front nine, while Cahill had three birdies on the back nine to finish off one of the best rounds of her young collegiate career with the Colonels.

Senior Alison Miller (Lexington, Ky.) finished off Centre's totals for the Sunday round with a score of 81. Miller joined Plourde and Hudson as Centre's representatives in the individual top 50 for the tournament after posting a three-day score of 239.

The Centre women's golf team will be hosting the Centre Invite on Mar. 23-24 on their Spring Break. The tournament will take place in Tampa, Fla.
