Colonels cruise to 18-6 win at Millsaps

The Centre women's lacrosse team won its ninth consecutive game and improved its record to 5-0 in the Southern Athletic Association with an 18-6 victory at the Millsaps Majors.
The leading goal scorer for the Colonels in the game was senior Sarah Mastey (Chattanooga, Tenn.) with five while senior Meg Hawthorne (Cary, N.C.) scored three times, including her 200th career goal. Junior Emily Madden (Louisville, Ky.) and sophomore Jacqueline Anderson (Louisville, Ky.) also scored three goals for Centre, while junior Audrey Powers (Chattanooga, Tenn.) scored two goals and sophomore Katy Cremer (Hudson, Ohio) and freshman Ellen Resinger (Louisville, Ky.) each scored once. Powers recorded a game high two assists against Millsaps, with Madden, Mastey and Resinger also landing in the assist column.
The Majors scored the opening goal of the contest, but Centre fired back with eight goals in a row in a 15-minute span in the first half. Powers and Hawthorne tacked on goals in the final three minutes to give the Colonels a 10-2 lead going into halftime. Centre gradually extended its lead throughout the second half, doubling up Millsaps 8-4 on goals, with Mastey scoring four times en route to the 18-6 margin of victory. Centre dominated the ball, outshooting the Majors 43-12, holding a 31-27 advantage in ground balls, going 17-18 on clears and forcing Millsaps into 22 turnovers for the game.
The Colonels will be back in action with an Apr. 5 home game against the Berry Vikings at 1:00 p.m.
