The Centre women's lacrosse team picked up its seventh win in as many Southern Athletic Association contests with a 22-5 victory over the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels on Apr. 12th.
The Colonels scored 11 goals in each half en route to victory, led by five goals from sophomore Jacqueline Anderson (Louisville, Ky.). Seniors Sarah Mastey (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Katy Cremer (Hudson, Ohio), junior Audrey Powers (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and freshman Ellen Resinger (Louisville, Ky.) each added three goals. Senior Meg Hawthorne (Cary, N.C.) scored two goals, while senior Frances Fisher (Ijamsville, Md.) and juniors Emily Madden (Louisville, Ky.) and Andrea Merchak (Lexington, Ky.) all added one goal. Audrey Powers paced the colonels in the assist category with four. Jacqueline Anderson and Katy Cremer each recorded three assists, while Emily Madden and Sarah Mastey each had two. Andrea Merchak and junior Anne Carole Preuss (Louisville, Ky.) each recorded one assist for Centre in the victory.
The Colonels scored the first five goals of the game within the first five minutes of action and never looked back. After the Petrels scored their first goal, Centre responded with five consecutive goals once again, Centre tacked on one more goal in the final three minutes of the half to go to the locker room up 11-3. Oglethorpe put the first goal on the board in the second half, but the Colonels came back with seven goals in a row, with six different players scoring goals in the run and four different players recording assists. For the game the Colonels outshot Oglethorpe 47-13, held a 34-17 advantage in ground balls and forced the Petrels into 27 turnovers.
Centre will be hosting a Southern Athletic Association Quarterfinal game on Apr. 19th. More information on the game will be posted later in the week.
