DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre women's lacrosse moved their win streak up to five games Saturday, defeating Illinois Wesleyan by a 17-7 margin at South Turf Field.
The Colonels (5-1) have outscored their opponents 95-33 since their narrow season-opening loss at Capital, dropping the visiting Titans (3-3) after leading wire to wire.
Senior Natalie Marek (Louisville, Ky.) put together a strong effort in goal, totaling a season-high 13 saves while holding the Titans to their lowest scoring output this year.
Fellow senior Haden Gibbons (Chattanooga, Tenn.) put the Colonels on the board early, scoring her 100th career goal on an unassisted tally barely 60 seconds after the opening draw control.
Illinois Wesleyan settled in a bit and slowed Centre's attack, but managed only one first-half goal of its own against Marek and the Colonel defense and trailed 7-1 at the break.
The Titans' Abby Kushina was the first to score in the second half, but Centre eventually ran away with a 7-1 stretch to start the running clock.
Junior Hannah Hardy (Louisville, Ky.) scored three of her season-high four goals in the second half, finishing with five points. Gibbons also recorded five points on three goals and a pair of assists.
Centre hits the road next week, traveling to face Mt. St. Joseph Friday, March 16, at 7 p.m. ET.
