Local product Souder to join women’s soccer staff
DANVILLE, Ky. – Former Mercer County High School star and University of Kentucky captain Landon Souder has joined the Centre women's soccer coaching staff for the 2018 season.
Souder graduated last December from Kentucky, earning SEC Academic Honor Roll as a senior while playing in 13 games and scoring one goal. He finished his two-year career with the Wildcats playing in 25 matches.
The Harrodsburg, Ky., native transferred to UK after two seasons at the University of Evansville, where he started 33 of 34 matches and was named to the Missouri Valley Conference All-Freshman Team in 2013.
Prior to his collegiate career, Souder was a standout at nearby Mercer County, earning All-State and NSCAA Scholar All-American honors. He was a member of the USYSA Region II Olympic Development Program, and was a captain of the Lexington FC club team that advanced to the Kentucky state finals and won a Disney Championship in 2011.
"I am extremely excited to get started working for such a distinguished school and program," Souder commented. "Having grown up around the Centre College program I owe it a lot for my development as a player and want to pass that experience on to the next generation of players."
Women's soccer Head Coach Jay Hoffman added, "We're extremely excited to have Landon as a part of our staff. He was a player that has meant a ton to the community because of all that he accomplished both on and off the field. I am overly excited that he is giving back to the game that he loves!"
Coming off its seventh consecutive NCAA appearance, Centre kicks off the 2018 regular season Aug. 31 at home against Mount Union at 7:30 p.m. ET.
