LYNCHBURG, Va. – Centre women's tennis earned a 6-1 victory Tuesday against Randolph, playing to decision inside the Crosswhite Athletic Club.
The Colonels improve to 6-7 overall and 2-1 on their current spring break trip in Virginia, sliding the Wildcats to 2-3 on the season.
At No. 1, Aliza Williams (Cincinnati) and Abigail Kent (College Station, Texas) dropped Keyu Jin and Aubrey Hawn, 6-3, and Caroline Stallings (Clarksville, Md.) and Emily Zelichenok (Louisville, Ky.) won by the same score at No. 2 over Ashley Schmitz and Lauren Appel.
The Wildcats earned their lone point at No. 1 singles, as Jin edged Kent in three sets, but Centre quickly picked up its fourth point at No. 2, where Williams defeated Schmitz, 6-1, 6-3.
Zelichenok earned a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 4 against Appel, officially clinching the Colonels' overall team win.
For good measure, Stallings wrapped up a 6-1, 6-0 win versus Hawn at No. 3 to bring the final tally to 6-1.
Centre next meets Randolph-Macon (3-2) at 3:30 p.m. ET Thursday in Ashland, Va.
