Centre women fall to Millsaps in battle of regionally-ranked programs

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. – In a meeting between two regionally-ranked Southern Athletic Association opponents, the Millsaps Majors defeated Centre, 5-1, inside the Top Seed Tennis Club Friday afternoon. 

The Colonels (6-9, 0-2 SAA) entered the day No. 10 in the latest ITA/Oracle Atlantic South Region rankings, while the Majors (9-5, 2-0) were a spot ahead at No. 9. Millsaps is also ranked 38th in NCAA Division III. 

Millsaps jumped ahead with wins in Nos. 1 and 3 doubles, although Abigail Kent (College Station, Texas) and Aliza Williams (Cincinnati) went toe-to-toe with regionally-ranked Grace Gaskins and Ashley Ford in an 8-6 defeat.

Caroline Stallings (Clarksville, Md.) and Emily Zelichenok (Louisville, Ky.) captured Centre's lone point with an 8-3 win at No. 2 over Maggie Dabadie and Rachel Beck.

The Majors took the first three completed singles matches, ultimately earning the overall team victory while leaving the other singles bouts unfinished. 

Centre has a short turnaround, facing Birmingham Southern tomorrow (Saturday) at home at 10 a.m. ET.
