Centre women break relay record in outdoor debut at Rhodes
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Centre women's track and field team began the outdoor portion of its season with the Rhodes Invitational, competing against a field of schools across all divisions. Even though it was a non-scored meet, it was still a strong outdoor debut for the Colonels, including the establishment of a new school record in a relay.
The 4x800m relay was the most noteworthy event of the meet for the Colonels as the team of junior Annie Rodenfels (Centerville, Ohio), sophomore Camille Mangold (Lexington, Ky.) and freshmen Alison Anderson (Hixson, Tenn.) and Madison Malloy (Louisville, Ky.) posted a time of 9:40.50 to break the record that had stood since 2011.
It was just the start of a busy day for Rodenfels, who later competed in the mile and posted a time of 5:11.99. She also finished ninth overall – first among Division III competitors – in the 800m with a time of 2:24.94. Anderson also impressed in the same events, posting top 15 overall finishes in each of them. In the 400m, sophomore Hannah Jazdzewski (Lexington, Ky.) finished second among D-III competitors and 14th overall with a time of 1:02.05.
Centre also had a strong day in the jumping events. Senior Emily Winkler (Louisville, Ky.) kept her strong final campaign at Centre going in the high jump, tying for eighth place overall with a clear of 4-11.75. In the pole vault, junior Taylor Singleton (Hendersonville, N.C.) cleared 9-06.25 to tie for eighth place. The best jumping event of the day for the Colonels was the triple jump, as sophomore Molly O'Dea finished second overall with a mark of 36-08.50, while sophomore Nia Dye (Bowling Green, Ky.) placed seventh overall at 33-05.75. O'Dea and Dye were the top two Division III finishers in the event.
In the throwing events, senior Aja Leachman (Louisville, Ky.) finished 16th overall in the hammer with a throw of 136-04. Leachman also had a shot put of 34-07.50 on the day. Sophomore Olivia Honaker (Brandenburg, Ky.) had a strong day in the javelin, posting a mark of 118-03 to finish tenth overall.
