Centre women finish second at Hanover Invite
HANOVER, Ind. - The Centre women's track and field team competed in the Hanover Invitational this afternoon against a field consisting of some of the best teams in the region. The Colonels finished with 120.5 points to post a close second place finish.
With 120.5 points, Centre finished 9.5 points behind Berea. Hanover finished a distant third with 94 points, followed by Manchester and Adrian.
The first points of the day for Centre came in the 200m as sophomore Hannah Jazdzewski (Lexington, Ky.) finished in sixth place. Jazdzewski did even better in the 400m, placing third with a time of 1:02.63. In the same event, senior Lydia Myers (Lenoxburg, Ky.) finished eighth overall in 1:05.79.
The middle distance events were some of the biggest scoring runs for the Centre women at the Hanover Invite. Junior Annie Rodenfels (Centerville, Ohio) placed second in both the 800m and 1500m. Freshman Alison Anderson (Hixson, Tenn.) finished third in both events. Sophomore Courtney Gibson (Catlettsburg, Ky.) placed fifth in both races, while freshman Madison Malloy (Louisville, Ky.) finished seventh in the 1500m.
In the 5k, senior Marisa Moore (Glasgow, Ky.) cracked the scoring column for the Colonels with an eighth place time of 19:59.44. The 10k saw Southern Athletic Association Cross Country Newcomer of the Year Hallie Searcy (Louisville, Ky.) win the event with a time of 40:13.95. In the 3000m steeplechase, sophomore Olivia Honaker (Brandenburg, Ky.) finished fourth overall with a time of 12:36.93.
Freshman Naomi Ferrell (Mill Valley, Calif.) took fifth place in both the 100m and 400m hurdles. More points for the Colonels came in the 400m hurdles as sophomore Erin Cunningham (Cecilia, Ky.) finished sixth in 1:15.34.
Centre finished fifth in both of the relays. The team of Cunningham, Jazdzewski, freshman Claire Ansman (Goshen, Ky.) and junior Taylor Singleton (Hendersonville, N.C.) posted a time of 52.43 in the 4x100m relay. In the 4x400m relay, Ansman, Jazdzewski, Cunningham and Myers posted a time of 4:22.57.
In the jumping events, senior Emily Winkler (Louisville, Ky.) started things off in the high jump, clearing 1.54 meters to finish in fourth place. In the pole vault, sophomore Camille Mangold (Lexington, Ky.) and Singleton each cleared 3.05 meters. Sophomore Molly O'Dea (Louisville, Ky.) continued her strong season in the triple jump, winning the event with a clear of 10.91 meters.
In throws, sophomore Grace Bertram (Campbellsville, Ky.) posted the top finish for Centre in the discus, placing fourth overall with a mark of 36.22 meters. Senior Aja Leachman (Louisville, Ky.) finished sixth in the same event with a throw of 35.75 meters. Leachman also finished sixth in the hammer with a throw of 42.12. In the javelin, Honaker places fifth overall with a mark of 30.16 meters.
The Colonels will return to the track next week with a two-day event at Bellarmine.
