On the first day of play, Friday, September 10, at the Hanover College Tournament in Hanover, Ind. the Centre volleyball team fell to host Hanover College 3-2 and Thomas More 3-0.
In the first match against Hanover the Colonels lost 25-20 in the first set, but Centre would recover in the second set winning 25-23. The Colonels continued to have success in the third match as they won 25-19. Although Centre was carrying the momentum they were unable to take the fourth set as they lost 25-23. Hanover was able to take the match as they won the fifth set 15-6.
Senior Rebecca Pugh (Colfax, Calif.) led the Colonels in kills with 20, while freshman Catherine Janszen (Cincinnati, Ohio) recorded 17 . Junior Hannah Greer (Owensboro, Ky.) had 50 assists and two aces. Junior Stephanie Woeste (Louisville, Ky.) also had two aces in the match. Leading the Colonels is digs was junior Laura Hench (Lexington, Ky.) with 28. Pugh and senior Ashton Hupman (Lexington, Ky.) each had four blocks.
Following the Hanover match the Colonels played a tough Thomas More team, who beat the Colonels in three sets, 25-23, 25-17, and 25-14.
Woeste and Janszen each had seven kills in the match. Greer had 24 assist for the Colonels, while Hench had 1 ace and 18 digs. Freshman Lydia Prevost (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Woeste each had a block.
Centre will take on Anderson and Spalding in day two, on Saturday, September 11, of the Hanover College Tournament, which is being played in Hanover, Ind. The match against Anderson will start at 11:00 a.m.
