Colonels Fall to Hendrix in Straight Sets

DANVILLE, Ky. (CentreColonels.com) – The Centre volleyball team began a stretch of seven consecutive home games with a Southern Athletic Association tilt against a Hendrix team that had suffered three of its four losses against top ten teams. The Colonels dropped the match to the Warriors in straight sets.

Centre jumped out to a 9-4 lead in the first set but the Warriors responded with nine consecutive points to take a commanding lead. The Colonels rallied to cut the lead to 19-17, but Hendrix weathered the storm after a timeout, scoring six of the next seven points to take the opening set by a score of 25-18.

The Warriors scored the first five points of the second set but the Colonels slowly chipped away, eventually tying the score at 12-12. An 8-0 Hendrix run helped get the Warriors to a set point, but the Colonels fought off the point four times before finally losing by a score of 25-19.

The third set saw both teams trade the lead throughout. The Colonels took the lead at 20-15 but the Warriors rallied, scoring the final five points of the set to win by a score of 25-23 and take the match.

Junior Hailey Foote (Prospect, Ky.) and freshmen Keeley Morton (Bristol, Tenn.) and Peyton Vacala (Savannah, Ga.) shared the team lead with six kills for the Colonels. Senior Katherine Hagan (Whitesville, Ky.) paced the Colonels with ten assists on the day. Hailey Foote also led the Colonels in digs with 12, with junior Morgan Babey (LaGrange, Ky.) adding 11 digs and Peyton Vacala finishing with ten digs.

The Colonels will be back in action on Sunday with a 1:00 PM matchup against the Rhodes Lynx. The Colonels and Lynx split their meetings in 2015 with the road team winning each game.
