Centre volleyball drops SAA road contest at BSC
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Centre volleyball team faced the Birmingham Southern Panthers as the Colonels looked to avenge a tough five-set loss in Danville from two weeks ago. The Colonels were unable to get much going on the road as they fell to the Panthers in straight sets.
In the opening set, the Panthers scored 11 of the first 12 points of the match and never looked back, eventually leading by as many as 13 points before winning by a score of 25-13.
The second set was back and forth with multiple lead changes and ties. With the game tied at 15-15, BSC went on a 10-1 run to end the set with a 25-16 win.
In the third set it was an 8-0 run from the Panthers that spelled doom for Centre, turning an early 7-7 tie into a deficit. The Panthers eventually closed out the match with a series of aces and took the set by a score of 25-14.
Senior Hailey Foote (Prospect, Ky.) led all players with 12 kills in the match. Freshman Kylie Cochran (Buckner, Ky.) ended with 20 of the Colonels' 23 assists. Junior Savannah Guenther (Mount Dora, Fla.) paced the Colonels with 11 digs while sophomore Peyton Vacala (Savannah, Ga.) added ten digs.
The Colonels will return to action on Thursday for a return match against the Sewanee Tigers on the road. Centre defeated Sewanee in a dramatic five-set match in Danville back in September.
